Exhibitors impressed with Cruise Show’s new look and feel

A vibrant and refreshed Cruise Show greeted visitors to The NEC, Birmingham in September.

Relaunched by Upper Street Events with a new colour scheme, and several brand new features, the elegantly arranged show was a hit with both exhibitors and attendees alike.

Good looking and informative, the two-day free to attend event featured over 24 hours’ worth of talks plus a stunning gallery of photographs by travel photographer Samson Reddyhoff.

The ever popular Meet the Cruise Lines theatre bustled with guests curious to hear first-hand about life on board ship, whilst the Ask the Experts stage sizzled with lively discussions of cruising’s hottest topics by a rotating panel of industry experts, led by well-known travel journalists Jonathan Beaumont and Sara Macefield.

New feature the Destinations Pavilion was a resounding success with visitors thronging the stage to hear about the world’s most fascinating locations, from the virtually untouched to the utterly unmissable. The most popular presentation by far was delivered by renowned astronomer Dr John Mason MBE, who spoke to an enraptured audience about the Northern Lights.

Dr Mason said: “I am so pleased that my talk was so well received and that there was such a good crowd gathered around.”

Supported by the UK’s leading travel PR agency Hills Balfour for the first time in its nine-year history, the new look Cruise Show has garnered considerable press coverage, whilst simultaneously strengthening its presence and reach online.

Word of the show certainly spread, with attendance totalling 6,500. The impact of a significant investment in marketing was tangible, with 87% visitors being new to the show, and 24% being new to cruise. The event also attracted a large number of high net worth individuals.

An investment in the digital element of the show bore fruit with the launch of an inspirational new website featuring an entertaining blog about all things cruise, and the creation of a dedicated Cruise Show App designed to help visitors navigate the show.

The next Cruise Show will take place at London’s Olympia on February 17th to 18th 2018.

Especially on the Saturday the quality as well as the quantity of the people was very good. We had quite a few conversations with high net-worth individuals. On Sunday we had the impression that the quantity of affluent cruisers who visited the show slightly reduced.

“We appreciated the change of the colors regarding the carpets as well as the shell scheme stand itself. It looks much better than before.  Finally we think that your team looked after us very well during the show.”

Katie Leigh, UK Inside Sales Executive, Hurtigruten said: We were extremely pleased with the quality of visitor this year, despite initially being worried as the tickets were for free, in contrast to previous years. Our stand was busy throughout the weekend and our talks were also very well received, meaning we got good brand coverage.”

Craig Upshall, Business Development Manager at Rocky Mountaineer said:  “The quality of the audience was excellent and well within our target demographic. It turned out to be our best return on investment for a consumer show to date at Birmingham.  See you next year!”
